Archangel Gabriel Icon 20×20 cm Monnci Art | Monika Żurowska
Archangel Gabriel Icon
This Archangel Gabriel icon by Monika Żurowska was created in the Monnci Art studio through a traditional, multi-stage icon painting process.
The icon is entirely hand-painted in egg tempera on a carefully prepared linden wood panel. The Archangel’s halo is embellished with genuine 23.75K gold leaf, which carries both an aesthetic and spiritual meaning within Christian iconography.
Its intimate 20 × 20 cm format allows the icon to be displayed on a wall, cabinet, shelf or small easel, making it suitable for a personal prayer space as well as a meaningful sacred artwork within the home.
Archangel Gabriel – meaning of the icon
Archangel Gabriel holds a special place within the Christian tradition. His name is commonly interpreted as “God is my strength.”
He is known above all as the divine messenger. In the Gospel according to Luke, Gabriel announces to the Virgin Mary that she will give birth to Jesus Christ.
For this reason, Archangel Gabriel is closely associated with the Annunciation, hope, the Good News, spiritual guidance and openness to the will of God.
A Christian icon is more than a decorative religious image. Traditionally, it is intended to lead the viewer toward prayer and contemplation, directing attention beyond the visible image toward spiritual reality.
The meaning of gold in iconography
Gold has occupied a unique place in Christian iconography for centuries.
It does not simply represent natural sunlight. Instead, it symbolizes divine light, eternity and a reality beyond earthly time.
This icon is embellished with genuine 23.75K gold leaf, whose surface responds beautifully to changing light and allows the halo to reveal subtle variations throughout the day.
The traditional process of icon painting
The history of Christian icons reaches back to the earliest centuries of Christianity, while their characteristic artistic language developed particularly within the Byzantine tradition.
Creating an icon is a multi-stage process. Preparing the wooden panel, building successive layers of colour, modelling light, painting details and applying gold all require patience, precision and time.
Unlike a reproduction, every hand-painted icon carries subtle variations in brushwork, surface and gilding that form part of its individual character.
Created in contemplation
Each icon created in the Monnci Art studio is hand-painted by Monika Żurowska with respect for the spiritual character and visual language of Christian iconography.
The process is deliberately slow and focused. Each stage is approached with care and concentration, allowing the work itself to become a contemplative process.
The result is an individual sacred artwork in which traditional materials, spiritual symbolism and the visible trace of the artist’s hand come together.
Archangel Gabriel icon as a gift
An Archangel Gabriel icon can become a meaningful and deeply personal gift.
Its spiritual symbolism makes it especially suitable for occasions such as:
- Baptism,
- the birth of a child,
- First Holy Communion,
- Confirmation,
- a wedding,
- an anniversary,
- a new home,
- another important spiritual occasion.
A hand-painted icon is not a temporary gift. It can accompany its owner for many years and may eventually become part of a family’s spiritual heritage.
